Camera to chapter

Point the phone at the page. Study it tonight.

No PDF? Photograph the pages. Chapterlume cleans up each photo, reads it into text you can check, and builds the guide, quiz, and test from exactly what was on the paper.

How a photo becomes a chapter

Everything happens from the Scan pages tab when you create a guide. Each page is read as soon as you add it, so the text is usually ready before you have taken the next photo.

  1. 01

    Snap or pick

Take a photo of a page with the camera button, or choose screenshots from your gallery. Add as many pages as the chapter needs, in order.

  2. 02

    Cleaned up on your phone

Before anything is uploaded, the photo is turned upright, trimmed to the size that reads best, and its contrast is stretched so grey, shadowed paper comes out black on white.

  3. 03

    Read into text

Claude reads the page in natural order, keeps headings, lists, and tables, rejoins words broken across lines, and leaves out page numbers and running headers.

  4. 04

    Check, retake, reorder

Each page shows what was read. Blurry or cut-off pages are flagged so you can retake them, and you can fix a word or drag a page into the right order before building the guide.

What works well

  • Textbook pages

Two-column layouts, boxed definitions, captions, and worked examples come through in reading order.

  • Worksheets and handouts

A printed handout from class becomes a chapter of its own, with the same quiz and practice questions.

  • Notes and whiteboards

Typed notes and clear whiteboard photos read well. Handwriting is read when it is neat.

  • Scanned PDFs

A PDF that is only page images is read the same way, page by page, without you doing anything extra.

For the clearest scan

Fill the frame with one page and keep the phone flat above it. Even light with no shadow from your hand gives the best read. If a page comes back marked blurry or cut off, retaking it takes a few seconds and the text is replaced in place.

Photos are read and then discarded. The text that was read is what the guide is built from, and you see it before anything else happens.
